KING BAND FEATURED JIVE FOR FIVE

The Karl L. King Municipal Band, conducted by Jerrold P. Jimmerson, assisted by Dr. David Klee, performed the weekly concert on Sunday evening, July 10.   Before the concert started, the popular area Brass Quintet, Jive for Five, presented a pre-concert performance.  Group members include Tim Miller, Humboldt on trumpet; David Swaroff, Dayton on trumpet; Kathy Yoakam, Humboldt, on French Horn; Dan Cassady, Twin Lakes, on trombone; and Paul Bloomquist, Dayton, on tuba.  These musicians are also all members of the King Band.

Marches on the evening program included “The Three Musketeers” and “Ponderoso” by the band’s namesake, Karl L. King, and John Philip Sousa’s “The Fairest of the Fair” and “The Picadore”, along with P.G. Lowery’s fast-paced galop, “Prince of Decorah”.

Also included in this program was an exciting new medley, “Hollywood Milestones”, which features many recognizable songs from recent blockbuster hit movies.   The evening’s overture was the spirited “Overture in Bb”, by the contemporary Chicago-born composer Caesar Giovannini.

Dr. David Klee conducted the band playing King's waltz, "Glory of Egypt" followed by the Sousa march "The Picadore."

During the concert, Jive For Five performed a new arrangement of “The Saints Hallelujah”, along with a Dixieland-style arrangement of “That’s A-Plenty!” with the band accompanying.

The evening closed with our National Anthem.
